Born December 22, 1972 in Stockholm, Sweden. Massimo Biolcati grew up in Sweden And Italy. He began his musical career at age 16, performing jazz on acoustic bass in Torino, Italy. For five years he studied both classical and jazz bass and performed at area festivals and clubs. At age 21, Massimo returned to Stockholm to study at the Royal Music Academy of Stockholm. He soon became a presence on the local jazz scene, appearing with an array of musicians at the city's most important jazz clubs and festivals, including the Stockholm Jazz Festival and Stockholm Water Festival. Besides jazz, he also played with several Scandinavian folk music groups. In 1996, at age 23, Massimo received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and moved to Boston. After three years in Boston, Massimo is currently performing with some of the best jazz musicians in the city. His performance and recording credits include: Jerry Bergonzi, Mick Goodrick, Hal Crook, George Garzone, Joanne Brackeen, Jamey Haddad (drummer w/ Dave Liebman), Jeff Hamilton, Bob Moses, Frank Tiberi (Woody Herman Big Band Leader), Gary Chafee, Howard Levy (Trio Globo), Kenwood Denard. He has done numerous recordings and can be heard on Tatsu Kisaragi's Lazy Bird feat. Jerry Bergonzi (King Records, Japan), Christian Gall's Vibes of Boston (Home Musik, Germany), Berklee College of Music's Summa Cum Jazz Vol.2 (BMG), Robin McElhatten's Never Let Me Go (ind.), Klaresque Ensemble's Approachable Perspectives (ind.), Alon Yavnai's D.C. al Coda feat. George Garzone (Whaling City Sound), Doug Johnson's Game Theory (ind.), The Music of Keith Jarrett with Goerge Garzone and Bob Gullotti (BMG). Besides performing in the cities of Torino, Stockholm and Boston, he's also appeared in New York, London, Tokyo, Luxembourg, MŸnich (Germany), Bern (Switzerland), Vienna and Graaz (Austria), performing in a variety of musical styles: jazz, brazilian, afrocuban and variuos other ethnic musics.
